Privacy Policy

Thank you for using VENNDY! Your privacy is very important to us. We wrote this Privacy Policy ("Privacy Policy") to help you understand what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have about it. This Privacy Policy forms part of, and should be read in conjunction with, the VENNDY Terms of Use and adopts the definitions used therein.

If you have any questions about our privacy practices, please refer to the end of this Privacy Policy for information on how to contact us.

What Information Do We Collect?

We collect information in a few different ways:

1. When you give it to us or give us permission to obtain it

Information you voluntarily provide - When you sign up to the Site and start using our Tools, you voluntarily give us certain information. This can include your name, profile photo, gender, demographic information, website address and your email address, that can be used to contact or identify you. Once you have an account, this can also include your VENNs, User Content, comments, Loves and any other information you upload to the Site, share on the Site or choose to give us.

2. We also get technical information when you use our Tools

These days, whenever you use a website, mobile application, or other internet service, there’s certain information that almost always gets created and recorded automatically. The same is true when you use our Tools. Here are some of the types of information we collect:

  • Log data. When you use VENNDY, we automatically collect information ("log data"), including information that your browser sends whenever you visit a website or your mobile app sends when you’re using it. This log data may include usage data, your Internet Protocol address, your browser type and settings, the address of the web pages you visited that had VENNDY features, the pages of VENNDY’s site you visit, the date and time of your visit, how you used VENNDY and other statistics. In addition, we may use third party services such as Google Analytics that collect, monitor and analyze this data.
  • Cookies data. When You visit the Site or use our Tools, We may assign your computer/device one or more "cookies" (a small text file sent by your computer each time you visit our Site, unique to your VENNDY account or your browser) or similar technologies to facilitate access to the Site and to personalize your online experience. When we use cookies, we may use "session" cookies (that last until you close your browser) or "persistent" cookies (that last until you or your browser delete them). Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but You can usually modify Your browser setting to decline cookies. If You choose to decline cookies, please note that you may not be able to sign in or use some of the interactive features offered on the Site. Through the use of a cookie, We may automatically collect information about your online activity on the Site, such as the web pages You visit, the links You click, and the searches You conduct on the Website. Some of the cookies we use are associated with your VENNDY account (including personal information about you, such as the email address you gave us), and other cookies are not. For more detailed information about how we use cookies, please review our Cookies Policy.
  • Other Technologies. We may use standard internet technology, such as web beacons and other similar technologies, to track your use of the Site. We also may include web beacons in promotional email messages or newsletters to determine whether messages have been opened and acted upon. The information We obtain in this manner enables Us to customize the services We offer visitors to the Site to deliver targeted advertisements and to measure the overall effectiveness of Our online advertising, content, programming or other activities.

3. Information Collected by third-parties

We may allow third-parties, including Our authorized service providers, advertising companies, and ad networks, to display advertisements on the Site. These companies may use tracking technologies, such as cookies, to collect information about users who view or interact with their advertisements. Unless expressly stated otherwise, the Site does not provide any personal information to these third parties. This information allows them to deliver targeted advertisements and gauge their effectiveness. For Example:

  • Some websites or apps use VENNDY features like our “VENN it” button. If so, we may collect log information (described above) from those sites or apps.
  • Affiliate Networks companies may share with us information as to number of clicks and purchased items further to a link created through and by VENNDY's users.
  • Online advertisers typically share information with the websites or apps where they run ads to measure and/or improve those ads. We also receive this information, which may include information like whether clicks on ads led to purchases or a list of criteria to use in targeting ads.

How Do We Use the Information We Collect?

We use the information we collect to provide our Tools to you and make them better, develop new products, and protect VENNDY and our users. If you are a VENNDY user, We may use information that We collect about you to:

  • Provide the Tools on the Site and improve Users’ experience and our services;
  • Ensure that content from our Site is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer;
  • Send you our periodic newsletters, manage contacts, send messages and respond to your questions or comments;
  • Communicate with you by email about products or services that you request from us which may be of interest to you either from Us, or other third parties;
  • Manage your account and carry out our obligations arising from these Terms as well as enforce these Terms;
  • Interact with external social networks and platforms, allow registration and authentication, allow access to third party services’ accounts;
  • Carry out remarketing and behavioral targeting, display content from external platforms, carry out commercial affiliation, interact with support and feedback platforms;
  • Manage user database, manage our business;
  • Develop and display content and advertising tailored to your interests on the Site, suggesting VENNRs, Items and Stories you might like. For example, if you’ve indicated that you’re interested in traveling to Paris or visited related websites that have VENNDY features, we may suggest Items, Stories, or VENNRs that we think you might like;
  • We’ll rely on your consent where we use cookies to show you ads you might be interested in. For example, if you clicked or voted "Surely" on your Style Chart on an entrepreneurial book on VENNDY, we may show you other similar books or products;
  • Send you updates (such as when certain activity, like Style Chart is voted or comments, happens on VENNDY), marketing materials and other information that may be of interest to you. For example, depending on your email notification settings, we may send you weekly updates that include VENNs you may like. You can decide to stop getting these updates by updating your account settings (or through other settings we may provide);
  • Improve VENNDY and offer new features
  • Work with law enforcement and keep VENNDY safe. We may get requests for account information from law enforcement authorities like the police or courts;
  • Perform functions as otherwise described to you at the time of collection. If you are a visitor to a website that uses VENNDY’s Tools, We may use your information to:
    • Enhance or improve the User experience on Our Site
    • Monitor data to ensure that it complies with these Terms;
    • Perform any other function that We believe in good faith is necessary to protect the security or proper functioning of our Site.

The information we collect may be “personally identifiable” (meaning it can be used to specifically identify you as a unique person) or “non-personally identifiable” (meaning it can’t be used to specifically identify you). We use both types of information, and combinations of both types, as described above. We may use or store information wherever VENNDY does business, including countries outside your own.

We’ll also rely on your consent where we use cookies to identify you across different browser sessions. This means if you log into VENNDY from your phone (or any device), we'll remember that you're you and you won't need to enter your login details each time you visit VENNDY. To find out more about how we use cookies, and your choices about how we use them, please see our Cookies Policy.

How and When Do We Share Information?

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personal information unless we provide users with advance notice. This does not include website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or serving our users (such as, for example, services providing customer service, services supporting the Site’s functionality or our email service provider, see below), so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release information when its release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property or safety.

Please be advised that anyone can see on the Site the Items and notes you write as well the Stories you create, and part of the profile information you give us (such as: name, country, website and since when you have become a member of VENNDY). We may also make this public information available through what are called “APIs” (basically a technical way to share information quickly). For example, a partner might use a VENNDY API to study what their most popular VENNs are or how their VENNs are being shared. The other limited instances where we may share your personal information include:

  • When we have your consent. For example, when you choose to link your VENNDY account to services such as Facebook or Twitter or publish your activity on VENNDY to them.
  • Online advertisers typically use third party companies to audit the delivery and performance of their ads on websites and apps. We also allow these companies to collect this information on VENNDY.
  • If we believe that disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation or legal request; to protect the safety, rights, or property of the public, any person, or VENNDY; or to detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues.
  • Law enforcement agencies or government agencies. We only share information if we believe that disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation or legal request; to protect the safety, rights, or property of the public, any person, or VENNDY; or to detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues.
  • We may engage in a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, dissolution, reorganization, or similar transaction or proceeding that involves the transfer of the information described in this Policy.

We may also share aggregated or non-personally identifiable information with our partners, advertisers, or others. For example, we may tell an advertiser on VENNDY how many people shared an Items that was VENNed on VENNDY, or the percentage of people who click on an Item, redirecting them to its origin after viewing it.

Any third parties to whom we may disclose personal information may have their own privacy policies which describe how they use and disclose personal information. Those policies will govern use, handling and disclosure of your personal information once We have shared it with those third parties as described in this Privacy Policy. If You want to learn more about their privacy practices, we encourage you to visit the websites of those third parties.

Email service provider

We use MailChimp and Convert Kit to manage our email marketing subscriber list and to send emails to our subscribers. They are both third-party providers, which may process your data using industry standard technologies to help VENNDY monitor and improve our newsletter. You can find their respective privacy policies on their sites.

You can unsubscribe from VENNDY’s newsletter by clicking on the unsubscribe link provided at the end of each newsletter. You can also deactivate your account from your Profile Settings on your VENNDY account.

Third-Party Sites

There are a number of places on the Site or through the Tools where you may click on a link to access other websites that do not operate under this Privacy Policy. For example, if you click on an advertisement, a third party’s content or a search result on the Site, you may be taken to a website that We do not control. These third-party websites may independently solicit and collect information, including personal information, from you and, in some instances, provide Us with information about Your activities on those websites. We recommend that you consult the privacy statements of all third-party websites you visit by clicking on the “privacy” link typically located at the bottom of the webpage you are visiting.

What Choices Do You Have About Your Information?

Our goal is to give you the highest level of control over your web experience. You can choose not to provide Us with certain information, as indicated in the sign-up form. If you are a registered member and have a VENNDY account, many of the choices you have on VENNDY are built directly into the Tools or your account settings. At this beta stage we are still working to provide you with maximum flexibility to choose your preferable settings. For the time being, please note that the information you share on My VENNDY is all public. That include your stories, items, followers, loves and the VENNRs you are following (let's call this your public information). However, your information on Wish List, Style Chart, Archive and Settings are all private and accessible only by you (this would be your private area).

By accessing your account Settings you can:

  • Link or unlink your VENNDY account from an account on another service (e.g., Facebook). For some services (like Facebook), you can also choose whether or not to publish your activity on VENNDY to that service.
  • Choose whether to receive notifications on comments you receive on your Items and Stories as well as invites to collaborate on other VENNRs' stories.
  • You can unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time by clicking on the UNSUBSCRIBE link at the bottom of any email message from VENNDY.
  • Close your account at any time. When you close your account, we’ll deactivate it and remove your VENNDY store, all your Items, Stories, Loves etc. from VENNDY. However, Items saved by other users will still be active. We may retain archived copies of your information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes (including to help address fraud and spam).

You may have choices available to you through the device or software you use to access VENNDY. For example:

  • The browser you use may provide you with the ability to control cookies or other types of local data storage.
  • Your mobile device may provide you with choices around how and whether location or other data is shared with us.

To learn more about these choices, please see the information provided by the device or software provider.

How Long We Keep Your Information?

We keep your information only so long as we need it to provide VENNDY to you and fulfill the purposes described in this policy. When we no longer need to use your information and there is no need for us to keep it to comply with our legal or regulatory obligations, we’ll either remove it from our systems or depersonalize it so that we can't identify you.

How We Protect Your Personal Information

The security of your personal information is important to us. We take appropriate and reasonable technical measures to protect personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction, taking into account the risks involved in the processing and the nature of the personal information.

VENNDY’s accounts require a username and password to log in. Members must keep their username and password secure, and never disclose it to a third party. To protect your privacy, account passwords are hashed, which means we cannot see your password. We cannot resend forgotten passwords either. We will only provide you with instructions on how to reset your password in case needed.

Unfortunately, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Our policy on children’s information

You may use VENNDY’s tools only if you are 18 years of age or older. If you are based in the EEA you may only use VENNDY if you are over the age at which you can provide consent to data processing under the laws of your country or if verifiable parental consent for your use of VENNDY has been provided to us. If you learn that your minor child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us here.

You have options in relation to the information that we have about you described below. To exercise these options, please contact us. If you're an EEA your individual rights include:

  • The right to access, update or delete your information: You can access, update or delete your information anytime through your VENNDY profile, under settings. If you have problems updating the information or if you would like us to delete it, contact us.
  • The right to object or restrict our processing of your information: You can ask Us to stop using your information. We only send you marketing material if you've agreed to it, but if you'd rather we don't, you can easily unsubscribe at any time.
  • The right to data portability: You can ask to have the information you provided to us sent to another organization, where we hold this information with your consent or for the performance of a contract with you, where it's technically feasible.
  • The right to complain to a regulator: If you're based in the EEA and think that we haven't complied with data protection laws, you have a right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority.

You can exercise your right to prevent such processing by contacting us by email and we will do our best to address them as soon as possible and no later than within 30 days.

How Do We Make Changes To This Policy?

We will occasionally update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in Our practices and services. When We post changes to this Privacy Policy, We will revise the “Last Updated” date at the bottom of this Privacy Policy. If you continue to use VENNDY after those changes are in effect, you agree to the revised policy. If the changes are significant, we may provide more prominent notice or get your consent as required by law. Notification will be made by sending an email to the email address You most recently provided Us in your account, profile or registration (unless We do not have such an email address), and/or by sending a push notification or posting notice of the changes on the Site.
