HOTEL KANRA KYOTO

Beautiful small hotel with great service. Location is fine, close to the train stations, though not very central. The restaurant for breakfast is located in (-1) floor, so don't expect any view or an inspiring setting (in case you are looking for one).

Nijo Castle | Kyoto Japan

Don't miss this castle, as it gives you a nice overview of the life for the shoguns

Fushimi Inari Shrine | Kyoto Japan

Kyoto Day 1: Definitely the #1 attraction in Kyoto. I highly recommend to arrive early and not miss the full track going to the top of the mountain and not only the viewpoint at the middle.

Ryoanji Temple |Kyoto Japan

The garden leading to the old house located inside are beautiful mainly because of their calmness. When you get to the Zen temple there is not much to see except for the rocks, but this experience of sitting there in the quiet, calm atmosphere breathing in the ancient waves of culture, was an unforgettable one. So surely worth the visit.

Arashiyama and Sagano | Bamboo forest | Kyoto Japan

You do not want to miss this one... You can arrive here by train (see details of how to access the area in this page at the bottom). From the moment you exit the station and see the Kimono Forest you know this place is gone be exciting. The Togetsuko Bridge and the Bamboo forest are the 2 main attractions. Worth the visit. Don't miss!

Shinkansen (Japanese Bullet Train) | Japan

A wonderful way to commute in Japan. It will not arrive in Takayama though so you need to switch trains. Always on time and very comfortable!

Takayama Old Town | Japan

Great walk in the old city. Everything is close by. There are 2-morning markets every day. It is a beautiful place to visit. Do not miss a visit to the onsen. The hotel recommended in this story has 3 private onsens which to my great surprise my girls loved and enjoyed so much!!!

Kamikochi | Takayama Japan

This was one of the day trips we took from Takayama and it was definitely worth it. This is a beautiful resort with a very convenient easy and accessible hiking trails for the whole family. The river's water and color will be stuck in my head forever!

Hida Folk Village | Takayama Japan

I didn't have high expectations, as I thought this would be a very touristic place. But it turned out to be a lovely morning with some great outdoor activity. It is not far from the village center so I recommend taking a taxi.

The Capitol Hotel Tokyu | Japan

Such a beautiful hotel!!!!

I was a bit concerned about its location which turned out to be indeed not very centered if you are looking to be closer to the hectic parts of Tokyo. It is closer to the business district of the city with governmental offices around. However, it is close to an area with a few streets full of restaurants and the 4 subway lines that are connected to the hotel are SUPER convenient.

Bottom line, you can easily get anywhere around. The hotel is modern (still with a local touch), breakfast is wonderful, service is great. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants a high-level 5 starts hotel in Tokyo.

Stay | Benesse Art Site Naoshima

The only option for staying the night over at Naoshima island. Friends who stayed there say it was wonderful. You'd better pick the half-board option as there aren't many options for dinner around.

Benesse Art Site | Naoshima Japan

A must visit place if you love art. We missed this place because we were traveling with kids and the commute in and out the island is quite a hurdle.

Hotel Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan | Takayama Japan

We really wanted to try the hospitality of a ryokan, so Takayama, being a small village felt like the right place to try it. Well, there is so much to write about this experience. Takayama was beautiful and ended up to be one of the highlights of our trip. Its a lovely city with wonderful options to go out of the village to tour around. Some places are in an hour's distance and some more... As to the hotel - you can enjoy the experience of traditional hospitality, food, serving, and design. Great experience. As to the beds in the ryokan option, well you better consider well before you choose that.

Highly recommended!

The Sagano Romantic Train | Kyoto Station | Japan

This has been a great finale to a wonderful day in Arashiyama. The Sagano Romantic Train is a delightful sightseeing train run by Sagano Scenic Railway in the Saga-Arashiyama area of western Kyoto.
